500th anniversary of the death of Perugino: Obverse: The Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus is depicted in the centre, a detail of the painting "Madonna and Child, Saint Sebastian and Saint John the Baptist" by Perugino, preserved in the Uffizi Galleries (Florence). The coin is completed on the left by the inscription PERUGINO, the dates 1523 and 2023 and at the bottom by the letter R, identifying the Mint of Rome; on the right, the inscription SAN MARINO and at the bottom by the initials of the author Maria Angela Cassol, MAC. Around it the twelve stars of the European Union. Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, was one of the masters of the Italian Renaissance, an artist who greatly influenced his contemporaries and whose works still enchant anyone who observes them. The 'Madonna and Child, St. Sebastian and St. John the Baptist' painted in 1493 is an oil painting on panel commissioned by Cornelia Salviati, widow of the Florentine merchant Giovanni Martini, for the chapel in the church of the convent of San Domenico in Fiesole. Restored in 1995, the colours, light and perspective are considered remarkable. 500th anniversary of the death of Luca Signorelli: Obverse: The centre depicts an angel, a detail from the painting 'Il Paradiso' ('The Paradise') by Luca Signorelli, preserved in the Chapel of San Brizio in Orvieto Dome. Completing the coin on the left are the letter R, identifying the Rome Mint, and rounded at the bottom the inscription SIGNORELLI; on the right round the inscription SAN MARINO, at the top centre the dates 1523 and 2023, at the bottom centre the initials of the author Marta Bonifacio, MB. Around it the twelve stars of the European Union. Luca Signorelli, pseudonym of Luca d'Egidio di Ventura, is considered one of the greatest interpreters of Italian Renaissance painting. Thanks to his early works with subjects from Christianity, he was involved in the decorations of the Sacristy of the Holy House Sanctuary in Loreto and, in his early thirties, the Sistine Chapel, first as Perugino's assistant and later as a titular artist. Famous are the 'rounds with Madonnas' today exhibited in the most prestigious galleries in the world.
