Following the 2005 issue dedicated to great Italian wines, this year the Republic of San Marino is issuing a stamp series dedicated to great European wines. The designer has included eight stamps, each worth €0.65, in a sheetlet, featuring the labels of important wines from seven European countries, selected by two wine experts. The sheetlet begins with a quote by Leonardo da Vinci: "And yet I believe that much happiness comes to men who are born where good wines are found."
France presents two champagnes, the TARLANT Cuvée Louis Brut - vinified and aged in oak barrels and the BAGUET-JOUETTE - aged for 3 years, Portugal presents the PORTO Vintage 1996 from the Quinta do Estanho company, Croatia presents the 2006 ZLAHTINA, an indigenous white wine from the island of Krk from the Katunar company, Germany presents the RIESLING from PETRI, Hungary presents the TOKAJI, Spain presents the RIBERA DEL DUERO from the Carmelo Rodero company and Slovenia presents the TEODOR BELO from the SIMCIC company.
