A postage stamp dedicated to the Centenary of the birth
of the Società Brescia Calcio: a philatelic issue to commemorate a historical event of great
importance. Brescia Calcio was founded in 1911 with the merger of the football associations
led by Franco Apollonio: Victoria, Unione Sportiva Bresciana and Gimnasium. The first team
Football Club Brescia was entrusted to the technical guidance of Ettore Bacchelli. Brescia managed in the following years
to emerge on the national scene and in the 1929-1930 season participated in the first
Serie A championship. From 1936 it was called Associazione Calcio Brescia and since 1976 it has been Brescia
Calcio.
The stamp depicts the Brescia Calcio Centenary logo on a blue background, with the legend ‘Brescia Century 1911-2011’ in the centre. Completing the stamp is the legend ‘San Marino’, the value ‘1.00’, the polygraphic company that took care of the printing, the year of issue and the name of the author of the design ‘Davide Cheli’.
