Medical Oncology deals with the diagnosis, medical treatment, and prevention of tumors using drug therapies and multidisciplinary approaches. It was developed in 1976, when the New England Journal of Medicine published a study by Dr. Gianni Bonadonna, Head of the Milan Cancer Institute, aided by internationally renowned researchers, showing that chemotherapy could prevent the recurrence of breast cancer following surgery. From then on, the prognosis for many patients has shifted towards a complete recovery.
The aim of this series of stamps is to raise awareness about medical oncology and express solidarity with cancer patients.
