The coin celebrates the greatest exponent of Renaissance culture: Leon Battista Alberti, writer, architect, pedagogue, art theorist and scholar.
The coin's reverse depicts the façade of Rimini Cathedral, commonly known as the 'Tempio Malatestiano' (Malatestian Temple), of which Leon Battista Alberti designed the architecture of the exterior by devising an innovative cladding in Istrian stone, inspired by the forms of the classical temple and the technical knowledge of triumphal arches.
