Poste San Marino SpA - Divisione Filatelica e Numismatica issues a divisional coin set with two 2€ commemorative coins in proof finishing of year 2022.
The 2-euro coins will commemorate the '530th anniversary of the death of Piero della Francesca' and the 'Bicentenary of the death of Antonio Canova'.
The obverse and reverse of the coins of the eight denominations (2 euro, 1 euro, 50 cent, 20 cent, 10 cent, 5 cent, 2 cent, 1 cent) are the same as the coins currently in circulation.
The first commemorative coin bears on its obverse the iconic profile of the Duke of Urbino, a masterpiece created by Piero della Francesca, one of the greatest painters of the Renaissance, in the context of his close relations with the court of Urbino. With the issuance of this coin, San Marino joins the celebrations of the sixth centenary of the birth of Federico da Montefeltro, a perfect Renaissance lord and champion of enlightened humanism.
With the second commemorative coin, San Marino celebrates the art of Antonio Canova, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the death of the Venetian painter and sculptor. The coin bears on the obverse the relief image of the sculpture of the goddess Hebe, a work that Canova created between 1796 and 1817 in 4 copies now preserved in Berlin, St. Petersburg, Chatsworth and Forlì. It is the last one chosen for the San Marino coin. On either side of the image of the goddess Hebe are the dates 1822 and 2022 to commemorate the celebration and around them the legends CANOVA and SAN MARINO.
The two coins commemorating two historical and cultural events of extraordinary international importance complete the 2022 coin set in proof version.
