At the end of the 5th century Saint Leone founded on the Montefeltro a little community, that gathered by the site that later became his sepulchral chapel enclosed into the Romanesque parish. In the second decennium of the 11th century, on the orders of Emperor Henry IV, during the translation of the body of the saint towards Spira in the Germanic Empire, the horses that were carrying the heavy sarcophagus reared in the nearby of Ferrara and refused to go on and since then the body of the saint has been kept by the cathedral of St Leo in Voghenza, in the municipality of Voghiera. The municipalities of San Leo and Voghiera celebrate the millennium of the translation of St Leo in 2016 with joint initiatives and exhibitions about the life of the saint. In order to reinforce the collaboration and the historical bonds between San Marino and San Leo, the Ufficio Filatelico issues a philatelic set dedicated to this event. The 0.20€ value shows the famous Rock of St Leo. The 2.70€ value represents the portrait of the bishop St Leo with the Romanesque parish on the background.
